George Clinton was born in 1941 in Kannapolis, NC. The legendary musician, performer, costume designer, and godfather of funk, also has an art career that has spanned decades. Known as one of the foremost innovators of funk music, he is widely recognized for the formation of the well-known Parliament-Funkadelic music collective.

His Afro-Futurist performances, his lyrical mythology, and his social commentary have profoundly influenced contemporary culture. Clinton has been creating a lexicon of funk which is visualized in his paintings and launched pioneering explorations into science fiction and psychedelia. His visual artwork is a mix of funkadelic mythologies and utopian fantasies. As a founder of the Afrofuturist movement, Clinton inspired some of contemporary arts’ leading figures, such as Lauren Halsey, Mickalene Thomas, Derrick Adams, and Rashid Johnson.
